A plan for studying the interior of Mars — NASA InSight

The geologist will dig the red planet several miles below to determine the internal temperature of the Mars.

It's hoped information about seismic waves generated by marsquakes will help develop a map of Mars' interior.

National Board of the United States of America on Aeronautics and research of space administration (NASA) reported that inspection of the heat shield of the Mars 2020 mission identified the appearance of cracks in the test results.

NASA is just days away from launching a spacecraft that will study the center of Mars. The tools will allow scientists "to look deep inside the planet", said mission chief scientist Bruce Banerdt (Bruce Banerdt) of the jet propulsion Laboratory of NASA. It's the first interplanetary mission launched from the west coast of the US.

The Mars lander is scheduled to launch May 5, from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

Rockets fairings stand ready on April 6, 2018, to be used for NASA's InSight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) lander where it's now undergoing final tests for its May 5 launch at Vandenberg Air Force Base. These briefcase-sized CubeSats will fly on their own path to Mars behind InSight. The point is to test the two CubeSats as a potential communication link with InSight as it descends to the red planet on November 26. The Curiosity rover has been doing a great job on Mars.

Vatican Treasurer to stand trial on sex abuse charges in Australia
After this, the Pope permitted him to leave the Vatican and return to Australia to defend himself at a committal hearing. After the announcement of the charges was made in June 2017, he said the idea of sexual abuse was "abhorrent" to him.

The InSight spacecraft will use parachute deployment and engine firings to make its descent.

After the dust from landing settles (about 16 minutes later), the motors for InSight's solar arrays warm up and prepare to unfurl its solar panels.

Landing on Mars with a spacecraft that's not much bigger than a couple of office desks is "a hugely hard task, and every time we do it, we're on pins and needles", Banerdt said. "But you never know", NASA project manager Tom Hoffman said.

A slender cylindrical probe dubbed the mole is created to tunnel up to five metres into the Martian soil.

The spacecraft weighs 1,530 pounds and it uses a similar design as the Phoenix lander and before it, the Viking landers.

InSight's science objectives, however, are reminiscent of NASA's Apollo program.

A second mission with a small fetch rover would land nearby and retrieve the samples in a martian search-and-rescue operation. As per the report by The New York Times, its landing spot will be Elysium Planitia which is a flat space of land with no mountains or large rocks in the spacecraft's line of sight. Banerdt jokingly calls it "the biggest parking lot on Mars". "Even with all the studying that we've done, it could throw us a curveball".
