  • Facebook to require authorization and labeling on all political and 'issue' ads, verification of large Pages and more

Kent Walker, senior vice president, public policy, Google said: "We announced improvements to one such product".

Facebook a year ago announced that only authorised advertisers would be permitted to run election ads at the leading social network and its photo and video-sharing service Instagram. That's just the start, though, as the company plans to launch additional transparency efforts this summer.

Specifically, advertisers will be required to "confirm they are a USA citizen" or a lawful permanent resident before their election ad will be approved.

Google said it will demand anyone seeking to buy election ads in the usa to establish they are legal taxpayers, as demanded bylaw. Google says it's building a searchable library for election ads, where anyone can look up this information, as well.

The Report will detail how is buying election ads on Google and how much money they're spending on it.

The Chocolate Factory says it will be requiring additional verification and attribution for political ads that run on its search results page, including a new requirement that anyone paying for a political ad spot be a U.S. citizen.

"Our work on elections goes far beyond improving policies for advertising".

"We're investing heavily in keeping our own platforms secure and working with campaigns, elections officials, journalists, and others to help ensure the security of the online platforms that they depend on".

The changes come as Google is attempting to prevent foreign governments from interfering in elections through its platforms.

Google said it's also working across various industries to help strengthen protections around elections.

The company has also partnered with the National Cyber Security Alliance and Digital Democracy Project at the Belfer Center at Harvard Kennedy School to fund security training programs for elected officials, campaigns, and staff members.

Apart from Google, Facebook and Twitter both have been involved in similar scandals.

Foreign interference in United States elections through web advertisements has also proven to be a major headache for tech giants like Google, Twitter and Facebook. "Stay tuned for more announcements in the coming months".
