  • Sichuan Airlines co-pilot 'sucked halfway' out of cockpit, captain says

After the captain heard a deafening sound, he looked over and noticed the right windshield was missing.

A recent airplane maintenance report released by Xinhua News Agency showed there were no signs of tear and wear on the windshields.

The co-pilot Xu reportedly suffered scratches on the face and the chest and is now hospitalised in Chengdu, according to state broadcaster Central China Television Station.

The terrifying incident occurred at 30,000 feet during a flight from Chongqing to Lhasa, China.

The harrowing incident comes almost a month after a woman on a Southwest Airlines flight from NY died after shrapnel from a blown engine smashed the window, forcing out part of her body as other passengers pulled her back in.

Unbeknownst to them, the pilot was trying to steer the aircraft with his co-pilot partially out of the windshield. Luckily, he had the belt buckled up. Many are praising Liu for being able to land the plane. "It was very hard to control". The co-pilot, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pulled back in. The co-pilot suffered scratches and a sprained wrist.

In recent weeks, window-related accidents on planes have resulted in one death and four other emergency landings. "Everything in the cockpit was floating in the air", Captain Chuanjian went on to explain. "Most of the equipment malfunctioned ... and I couldn't hear the radio".

One unnamed passenger told the government-run China News Service that airline workers had been serving passengers food when the plane began to shake.

The pilot made an emergency landing in the southwest city of Chengdu.

"All people were shouting".

"The cockpit window broke all of a sudden, followed by a loud noise", Liu told state media. A flight attendant was also injured during the melee.

The passenger said, "I'm still nervous".

Sichuan Airlines issued a statement via Chinese social media citing "mechanical failure", as a possible cause.

A Flybe plane made an emergency landing shortly after takeoff when the cockpit windshield cracked. All 128 people aboard the Airbus A319 of Sichuan Airlines survived the ordeal.
