  • KILDARE WEATHER UPDATE: Showery day ahead

Millions of sunseekers are expected to throng parks and beaches at seaside resorts as Britain takes advantage of the scorching weather.

Bank Holiday Monday in 1999 was 23.6C, while the hottest bank holiday weekend ever was in 1995 when temperatures peaked on the Saturday at 28.6C.

Temperatures started to creep up on Thursday afternoon in southern England, paving the way for at least a week of warm conditions.

Early indications show the hot weather and sunshine could last until the middle of May after a miserable end to April, according to forecasters.

Almost three million vehicle journeys are predicted for Friday evening, as Britons hit the road ahead of what forecasters believe could be the hottest early-May bank holiday Monday in nearly two decades.

"Temperatures will pick up as we go through the the weekend as high pressure builds bringing warm air up from the south".

Of course there will be cloudy periods too, it is Ireland, but Met Eireann are reporting that we should see temperatures reach 15 - 19 degrees in parts.

Use of genealogy site to trace Golden State Killer raises concerns
Carlisle said his agency was not actively investigating the Zodiac case, but did follow tips as they arise. The Zodiac Killer is responsible for at least five murders in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

"However it will remain warmer than average for the time of the year in parts of the country".

The highest temperatures of 26C and 27C are expected in south-east England, particularly around west London.

It comes in sharp contrast to last Monday when some parts of the United Kingdom experienced "unseasonably cold weather" and saw more than half of one month's rainfall in a day. So it's often asked why we can't have this bank holiday weekend moved later in the warmer season when there is less risk of cold weather.

Generally light winds away from the northwest, so where we have some sunshine - it will be pleasantly warm.

There will be further outbreaks of rain and drizzle in most areas tomorrow but temperatures are expected to climb as high as 14C.

But this Monday could be the hottest since 1978, when the early May Bank Holiday was introduced.

"Birmingham comes next in the market at 7/2 ahead of Cardiff at 5/1 and we are 11/2 for Belfast to top the temperature charts".
