Sen. Wyden wants details on Cohen-Novartis relationship

  • Russia's Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev left and billionaire Viktor Vekselberg launched a foundation that the FBI warned was a clandestine attempt to pilfer American technical secrets

President Trump's legal adviser Rudy Giuliani won't debate Stormy Daniels' lawyer - because he doesn't associate with "pimps", he said Friday.

Novartis, for its part, said it hired Cohen for advice on the new administration and USA health care policy issues.

"Whatever lobbying was done didn't reach the president", Giuliani insisted to HuffPost.

Novartis hired Cohen's consulting firm in 2017 to provide insight on Trump's health-care plans.

Asked if Trump knew about the arrangement, Giuliani said: "He didn't know about the specifics of it, as far as I know".

Internal AT&T documents obtained by The Washington Post show how AT&T agreed to pay $600,000 to Cohen a year ago in exchange for guidance on policy matters, including issues it is facing at the Federal Communications Commission and its proposed deal with Time Warner.

A key Democratic senator is joining at least one other lawmaker Friday in requesting that pharmaceutical giant Novartis turn over documents relating to President Donald Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen.

But Trump had vowed during the 2016 election to stop the merger in his first 100 days in office, and has repeatedly expressed disdain for Time Warner's CNN.

Mr. Cohen, President Donald Trump's longtime personal attorney, pursued opportunities with several companies after the election, pitching himself as a consultant with an entree to the highest levels of the new administration.

And that brings us to this week's news about Michael Cohen, President Trump's one-time "fixer". Stephenson described the decision to hire Cohen as a "big mistake" and announced that Quinn would be retiring immediately. An official in the agency's antitrust division also said the White House was not directed it on how to proceed on the transaction.

"Our Washington D.C. team's vetting process clearly failed, and I take responsibility for that", Stephenson said in a memo to employees. "Here's what needs to happen: Cohen must apologize, pay back his swamp fees and tell us who else he pitched his services to".

But Quinn appeared to recognize that the Cohen deal was a mistake, according to another person who spoke on the condition of anonymity to freely discuss Quinn's situation.

On Friday, Sen. Ron Wyden of OR, the rating Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee, opened an inquiry into the association between Cohen and Novartis, alleging that on the time of the deal the corporate was negotiating with Medicare on the value of a pricey most cancers drug. If Cohen paid Daniels for her silence without Trump's knowledge, such action was unethical and can not be condoned.

Before taking office Trump tried to present a more open mind, telling Axios he hadn't yet "seen the facts" and that they would be "presented to me and to the people within the government". Trump had recently been quoted saying "I'm not supposed to be involved in the Justice Department", adding, "I'm not supposed to be doing the kinds of things I would LOVE to be doing, and I'm very frustrated by it".

At these swanky events, the two Columbus Nova insiders said, Intrater and Vekselberg noticed Cohen hobnobbing with other well-to-do guests.
