  • Senate Intel Panel Agrees Russia Intervened In 2016 Presidential Election

Trump Jr. issued a statement Wednesday pronouncing himself candid and forthright with the committee, but the transcripts show that he responded time and again to questions by saying he could not recall or had no idea.

He said he was not aware whether anyone else on the campaign had contact with WikiLeaks.

The meeting is being investigated by Special Counsel Robert Mueller as part of his probe into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.

"One of the blatant potential untruths here is about his conversations with his father about this Trump Tower meeting". The statement described the meeting as being about Russian adoption but left out that Trump Jr. had been told it was part of a Russian government effort to aid the campaign. "The meeting was a complete waste of time and Don was never told Ms. Veselnitskaya's name prior to the meeting".

Last July, when the New York Times published a report about the meeting, a statement was crafted aboard Air Force One as the president returned from Germany. Chuck Grassley's Senate Judiciary Committee.

According to USA media, parts of the Senate report highlighted the relationship between the NRA and the Russian government.

During a boisterous planning meeting in Las Vegas and then over a weekend in Moscow, Trump became friendly with the Russian father-and-son duo, as well as Goldstone, Emin Agalarov's British manager. "They are concerned because it links Don Jr.to officials from Russian Federation - which he has always denied meeting".

British publicist Rob Goldstone arrives at a closed door meeting with House Intelligence Committee on Capitol Hill in Washington on December 18, 2017.

Transcripts released Wednesday detail an interview the president's eldest son gave to the Senate Judiciary Committee past year. One of Junior's blindspots included the presence of Russian lobbyist and former Soviet counterintelligence officer Rinat Akhmetshin, who is suspected of having ties to the Kremlin. They show that Trump Jr. says he doesn't remember ever discussing the Russian Federation investigation at all with his father.

Political sources told AFP that two meetings have been held under Iranian guidance to bring together several political blocs. The final vote count is yet to be completed before confirming the final make-up of Iraq's new 329-seat parliament.

Schiff said Trump Jr. invoked the privilege because his lawyers claimed that the discussion with his father took place in the presence of legal counsel, which Schiff and other Democrats argued is a situation not covered by the privilege.

Democrats on the House committee said Wednesday that they agree with the conclusion reached by the Senate panel. After small talk about the view and a recent win in the primaries, the younger Trump got down to business, Akhmetshin said.

Top campaign officials Donald Trump Jr., Paul Manafort, and Jared Kushner accepted the offer of incriminating information on the campaign's opponent from a hostile foreign government. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said it was "very clear that the goal of the Russian interference was to try to undermine confidence in our Democratic institutions - and that's why western democracies in general have been targeted by the Russians", she said.

Donald Trump Jr. told the Senate Judiciary Committee that he couldn't remember whether he had discussed the Russian Federation investigation with his father.

There are other questions too, that the transcripts raise but don't answer, including a discrepancy about how long Kushner was at the meeting as well as followup between the meeting participants -- they had denied any followup but the transcripts are the latest piece of evidence to contradict that assertion.

USA intelligence agencies since January of 2017 are investigating a case of possible Russian interference in presidential elections in October 2016.

Trump Jr. deflected multiple questions during the interview, including whether he discussed the Russian Federation probe with his father.

The transcripts reveal some new details about how the meeting - a key point of interest in special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into potential coordination between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign - came to be arranged and efforts afterward to mitigate the political damage arising from its disclosure. But the transcripts, including Trump, Jr.,'s own testimony, which he gave on September 7th of a year ago, also confirm that the Trump camp was eager to hear out their Russian visitors and find out what damaging information they had to offer.
