Starbucks changes bathroom policy after Philadelphia arrest

Even if you're not stopping in to buy a cup of coffee you now can officially use a Starbucks bathroom without buying anything, as the company continues to make changes following the arrest of two black men at a Philadelphia store and the ensuing public backlash. One man had asked to use the restroom, and was denied.

The attorney for the men, Lauren Wimmer, Esq., said they had been waiting at the coffee shop for less than 15 minutes, for a third person to arrive for a business meeting over a real estate project. This entire series of events was initiated when a store manager saw two black men idly waiting for a friend-and profiled them as unsafe, as vagrants, as people to be removed.

The company has opened its bathrooms to everyone as Starbucks Chairman Howard Schultz said he didn't want people to feel "less than" if they were refused access.

"Because we don't want anyone at Starbucks to feel as if we are not giving access to you to the bathroom because you are 'less than, '" said Schultz.

Until now, Starbucks has held a "loose" policy of letting paying customers use the store's restroom, but managers had discretion to allow others to use the restroom as well. "And it's really the judgement of the manager". And he said, no. "And she made a awful decision to call the police".

Comment on "dying" John McCain draws bipartisan condemnation
He added: "I imagine the Senate ought to train its obligation of recommendation and consent and reject this nomination". John McCain helped us save our military.

Not long after the Philadelphia arrests, a video surfaced of another incident in California that had taken place in January.

"We were absolutely wrong in every way". "It's the company that's responsible".

The coffee chain has sought to fix damage to its image by apologising and ordering all its stores and corporate offices across the United States to close for an afternoon on May 29 to conduct "racial-bias education". Neither man had made a purchase, according to the video shot by Brandon Ward, which is posted on his Facebook page.

The training for about 175,000 workers "will be the largest kind of training of its kind on perhaps one of the most systemic subjects and issues facing our country", Schultz said.
