What do you hear? Viral audio clip stirs online debate

  • People either hear 'Yanny' or 'Laurel' in this one clip and it’s tearing the whole damn internet apart

But just about everyone is pointing to this Reddit post from Roland Camry as the original source of the Laurel-Yanny conundrum. Some even claim to be able to hear both words at once. The word being spoken isn't quite yanny or laurel, says Brown University phonetician Chelsea Sanker.

Meanwhile, the FOX 26 newsroom is completely split on the issue. Ashley Barrentine wrote, "I hear Yanny but my dad and boyfriend hear Laurel I'm shook".

Within an hour, I've been able to convert four of my colleagues after playing the clip ad nauseum.

"HOW DOES ANYONE HEAR LAUREL ITS YANNY", Twitter user zaynilla added.

Apps Suspended in Facebook's Ongoing Internal Data Misuse Investigation
Archibong says Facebook plans to launch thorough investigations into each of the ~200 apps to determine if they misused user data. Once the second phase is complete, Facebook users will be notified via a Facebook website if their personal data was jeopardized.

I, however, continue to hear "Laurel".

If you mess around with the pitch, you'll also maybe hear different sounds depending on how messed up your ears are. If the volume is turned down low, there's a higher chance one might hear "yanny" because the bass is not as prominent.

First, it was "what color is the dress?". The audio illusion drew comparisons to the great dress debate of 2015. "This is a case for the Federal Bureau of Investigation", one Twitter user wrote. By the end of 24 hours, tweets containing #TheDress had jumped to over 1.2 million.
